Who Else is Sick of Social Media
As a professional digital marketing expert…
Don’t get me wrong social media is a necessary digital marketing tool in 2024! BUT…
As a seasoned digital marketing professional, I must acknowledge that social media remains an indispensable tool in 2024, yet I can't help but reflect on how its essence has shifted.
The early days of Twitter, when platforms fostered genuine connection, now feel like a distant memory. Remember IRL "Tweeups" with online acquaintances? Weekly #GNO (Girls’ Night Out) discussions led by Jyl Pattee of Mom It Forward, where hundreds, if not thousands, participated and brands organically engaged? That era of unfiltered, community-driven interaction is what I miss. While TikTok’s live features occasionally recapture this spirit, the overall landscape feels increasingly transactional. After 17 years in digital media, the evolution, or perhaps over-sophistication, of these platforms is striking.
The Days of the Digital Wild West & Blogging
For the past six years, my focus on Dashing Digital, my digital marketing agency, relegated social media to a peripheral role. But now, I’m returning to my roots: blogging. Unlike the performative brevity of social posts, blogging offers depth and intentionality.
My journey began in 2007 with Sweet Life in The Valley (yes, the same valley in Utah #MomTok now calls home). A lifestyle blog featuring Utah-based businesses, travel, recipes, and more, it thrived on daily posts and weekly "Fun Free Fridays" giveaways. The thrill of collaborating with local entrepreneurs and national brands alike was unmatched. Back then, digital marketing was uncharted territory—a frontier where we pioneered strategies in real time.
So here I am, rekindling that authenticity. And yes, you’ll find me on TikTok, but blogging? That’s where the real connection begins.
I post on TikTok.
